Founded in 1948 by a group of Jewish families
living in western Suffolk County, Sinai Reform Temple’s history has been one of
achievement, trials, sorrow, and joy.
The property where
our synagogue is located was first purchased in 1948, but it was not until 1964 that a sanctuary was built. For 16 years, the
congregation grew and flourished as the South Shore became more populous.
Though the temple was destroyed by arson. Thankfully, no one was hurt, and with
the help of our friends, services continued at various venues including the
Spirit Alive Center of St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church, Bay Shore Jewish
Center, and the Interfaith Chapel at NYIT in Central Islip.
In 1993, our current Synagogue was
built and all has been quiet since.
