This past Friday, May 13th, I was invited to attend a “Volunteer RecognitionBreakfast” sponsored by F.E.G.S. (UJA Federation of N.Y.). I proudly represented the “Supplies for Success” program that we have been a partner of for the past nine years. All of you who have participated in this program by donating much needed school supplies, or supported it with your monetary contributions, were with me in spirit. It was a wonderful event with personal stories from the many volunteers present about how they have enriched the lives of others in so many ways, and in return how the recipient has enriched their lives. For example, visiting the homebound, reading to them, playing Scrabble, or just a once-a-week friendly visit, food shopping, or “Adopt a Family” programs that F.E.G.S. sponsors. Here is a quote that says it all: “The giver gets more than the getter.” And it is so at our Temple, whether we volunteer at the Thrift Shop, donate Supplies for Success, food for the food pantry, or Chanukah Toys for Tots, we are all practicing the message that has been instilled in us as Jews: the importance of Mitzvah, doing a good deed. Chai Club is proud to sponsor the “Supplies for Success” and the “Chanukah Toys for Tots” programs. Without the support of congregants and friends of Sinai Reform Temple, these programs would never be as successful as they are.
Our next Chai Club Board meeting will be held at Temple on Wednesday, June 8th at 10AM. Please join us. Our meetings are open to all Temple members. Besides planning future events, we have a very lively, interesting current events discussion. If you have any ideas for future programs and cannot attend our meeting, please e-mail them to me, Marian Kent, at marian_kent@yahoo.com, or call me - 631-581-3988.
Israel and Sinai Reform Temple’s 63rd Anniversary celebration was a great success. We enjoyed a lovely service and a super delicious oneg of Israeli desserts. Thanks to all our members who donated delicious desserts and special thanks to the generosity of the New Forum Diner for the tray of Baklava. Thanks to Gina Rosenthal for doing a great job with the publicity. Thanks to Sharon D’Agostino for helping to set up. Thanks to Joy Wittchen O’Brien for donating the wonderful assortment of crafts for the children’s activity table. Thanks to Barbara Stevens, our Temple secretary for all her help with the copying of the service supplement. And to our caretaker, Darrell Moye, thanks for schlepping and schlepping all the food and items that we needed to make this celebration a success. And last but not least, David Ellner for lending us his CD player.
