Confirmation Class Trip to NYC
On Saturday, May 8th the Confirmation Class took its annual trip into the city! We had an amazing time attending Shabbat morning services at Temple Emanu-El, eating lunch at Katz’s, and visiting the Tenement Museum. Here are the reactions to our trip by our three Confirmands:
- Chelsea Behrens: I thought the trip was amazing! I had so much fun! I felt like we all bonded with each other during this and got so much closer. My favorite part of the trip had to have been the service at Congregation Emanuel. I thought it was orchestrated amazingly and it was so nice to get to see how other temples lead Shabbat Morning Services. I had one of the best times. If there was one piece of advice I’d give to anyone entering 10th grade, it would be to continue your Jewish studies and become a Confirmand! The Rabbi is a fabulous teacher and we have the best times together. So thank you Rabbi for everything you’ve done this year!
- Matthew Hausmann: The Confirmation Class and I were very lucky because the Rabbi was nice enough to take us into the City for a day of excitement. We went to Shabbat Morning Services at a temple which was truly amazing. It was huge, and had certain colors and patterns on the ceiling which made it look so extravagant. The service had familiar prayers but was a little more classical than the services which I normally attend. We were lucky enough to meet one of the rabbis at the Temple, Rabbi Amy Ehrlich. It was really interesting how much her services were different than ours. Afterward, we went to the famous Katz’s Delicatessen. It was my first time there and I must say they probably had the best sandwiches I’ve ever tasted!!! I ordered the pastrami and it was mouthwatering. I would love to go back anytime. I would just like to thank the Rabbi for such an amazing day.
- Elliot Courtney: I very much enjoyed the recent Confirmation trip into the city. Among the places we visited, one of them was the Tenement Museum located in New York’s Lower East Side. It is an original tenement building which was restored to when it was formerly occupied from the late 1800’s to the early 1900’s. The tour we took was “Piecing it Together,” which portrayed the lives of two Jewish families working in the garment industries. We learned about their lives through the apartments they lived in. It showed the hard lives they lived and their cramped working conditions. It really helped all trip attendees get a better understanding of how many Jewish families came to America, made a living, and started off in this country. It was an informative and fun day!
